Srinagar, Jan 22 (KNO): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have Wednesday said to have arrested three drug peddlers in Baramulla, Budgam & Handwara and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In Baramulla, a police party headed by SHO Police Station Boniyar at a checkpoint established at Chak Limber, Boniyar intercepted a suspicious person. He has been identified as Gh Nabi Dar son of Late Mohd Subhan resident of Babagail Limber. During the search, 50 grams of contraband charas-like substances was recovered from his possession, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
In Budgam, a police party of Police Station Chadoora at a checkpoint established at Durbugh near Higher Secondary School Chadoora, intercepted a suspicious vehicle (Maruti 800) bearing registration No. JK01H-8720 driven by Sajad Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat resident of Gopalsaif Dedmaribagh Chadoora. During the search of the vehicle, one polythene bag containing grinded charas like narcotic substance weighing 01 kg and 700 grams was recovered. Vehicle used in commission of crime was also seized, the statement added.
In Handwara, a police party of Police station Handwara at a checkpoint established at Chotipora intercepted a person identified as Khalid Bashir Lone son of Bashir Ahmed Lone resident of Kahipora Kralgund. During his personal search, 100.46 grams of contraband Charas-like substances was recovered from his possession, police said.
All the accused have been arrested and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated, police said.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police added—(KNO)
