Srinagar, Feb 25 (KNO): President of the Daily Wagers Forum and General Secretary of the Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC), Sajad Ahmad Parray Tuesday raised serious concerns over the alleged discrepancies in implementing the order of 2021, which mandates the transfer of select Jal Shakti Department (PHE) divisions to Municipal Corporations.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Sajad Parray, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that while the order has been fully implemented in Jammu, Kashmir continues to face mismanagement and legal hurdles.
He said the issue is currently sub judice, with two cases pending before the Supreme Court.
He accused certain officials in the Chief Engineer’s office in Kashmir of disregarding court orders, misleading authorities, and acting against the public interest. “Their actions threaten both employee rights and the water supply system,” he said.
Parray also said that before any proposal is sent to the government, employee representatives of the transferred divisions must be consulted. He further stated that if their demands are not met, employees will stage a peaceful protest on February 27, 2025, from the Water Works Division Srinagar to the Chief Office. “If no corrective measures are taken, a complete work strike will follow,” he said.
He urged the Additional Chief Secretary of the Jal Shakti Department and the Municipal Commissioner Srinagar to intervene and ensure the protection of the Water Works Division Srinagar, the water supply system, and employee livelihoods—(KNO)
