Srinagar, Sep 21 (KNO): Terming the one-hour proceedings of the Legislative Assembly a "mockery" of people's expectations, MLA Mehraj Malik said legislators should have continued the House proceedings as people had pinned high hopes on the session.
"It was a mockery. They should have continued the House as people had expectations, but they made a mockery of the proceedings as the House ran for only an hour," Malik told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) while reacting to the disruption of proceedings amid protests over power tariff hikes, regularisation of daily wagers and the demand for the restoration of statehood.
He questioned those who had earlier criticised his conduct, saying leaders should also be answerable for failing to meet people's expectations.
"Those who were questioning my behaviour and called it ill-mannered, what about these leaders who ruined people's expectations within one hour?" he asked.
Malik said the seven-day Assembly session was already too short to adequately discuss the issues confronting Jammu and Kashmir and urged legislators to remind the government of the promises made in its manifesto.
On employment and the regularisation of casual and daily-wage workers, Malik said political parties had sought votes by making commitments on these issues and were responsible for fulfilling them.
"They sought votes on promises of a policy for casual and daily wagers and employment for youth. It is the government's job, and if it is failing, it reflects its incompetence, be it BJP as well," Malik said.
He said the government must be held accountable for its commitments and provide answers on issues concerning employment and workers in Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)
