Srinagar, Aug 04 (KNO): The annual Amarnath Yatra continued on Tuesday, with the total number of pilgrims performing darshan crossing 4.67 lakh, while a fresh batch of 964 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu for the Baltal base camp under tight security arrangements.
Figures available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said 3,289 pilgrims performed darshan on Tuesday, including 1,876 men, 937 women, 41 children, 22 sadhus, five sadhvis, two transgender pilgrims and 406 security personnel.
With this, the cumulative number of pilgrims who have completed the pilgrimage since July 4 has reached 4,67,986.
The 27th batch of pilgrims departed from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas at 3:05 a.m. in a convoy of 39 vehicles, comprising 21 buses, eight medium motor vehicles (MMVs) and 10 light motor vehicles (LMVs).
“The batch included 744 men, 177 women, one child, 32 sadhus and 10 sadhvis. With today’s departure, the total number of pilgrims who have left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp during the ongoing Yatra has reached 1,41,712,” an official said.
He said the 25th down convoy carrying returning pilgrims also left the Baltal base camp for Jammu.
“A total of 2,073 returning pilgrims, including 1,552 men, 461 women, 11 children, 41 sadhus and eight sadhvis, travelled in a convoy of 63 vehicles, comprising 42 heavy motor vehicles (HMVs), six MMVs, 14 LMVs and one truck,” he said.
The official said the Pahalgam route has already been closed for the pilgrimage due to maintenance work. Pilgrims are currently undertaking the Yatra only through the Baltal route. The 57-day annual Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 28—(KNO)
