Baramulla, Aug 03 (KNO): Cabinet minister Javed Dar on Monday said the Union Territory (UT) government was working under challenging circumstances to fulfil the people's expectations and restore governance after a prolonged gap.
Addressing a gathering here, Dar, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the government was committed to delivering on its responsibilities despite facing multiple challenges.
“We acknowledge that people have expectations from the government. We assure you that we are not stepping back from our responsibilities. We are working to reform departments, especially the Social Welfare Department,” he said.
The minister highlighted welfare initiatives taken by the government, including increasing marriage assistance from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000 despite financial constraints.
“Even with limited resources, we took decisions for the benefit of people in need,” he said.
Dar said the present political environment was different as the region had remained without an elected government for nearly eight to ten years. “We are trying to put the train back on track which had lost its way. We face challenges, but we are trying to resolve them ourselves instead of involving people in these difficulties,” he said.
The minister urged people to judge political parties based on their work and commitment towards public welfare.
“People must identify who fights for them and who fights for self-interest. The National Conference has always represented the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Dar said—(KNO)
