Police arrest drug peddler in Shopian, contraband substance recovered | KNO

Srinagar, Jan 16 (KNO): As a part of its sustained efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian arrested one drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession. According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), during routine naka checking at Dachnoo Heerpora, a police party from Police Station Heerpora apprehended a suspicious person. Upon his search apparently Cannabis like substance weighing approximately 5Kgs were recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Aslam Kalas resident of Devpora. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 06/2026 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Heerpora and investigation has been initiated. J&K Police reiterated its commitment to maintain a drug-free society and appealed the general public to cooperate in this noble mission. They also requested citizens to share any information regarding drug abuse or peddling on the helpline number 9596768831 (PCR Shopian) or Dial 112—(KNO)
