Baramulla, Sep 05 (KNO): Six sheep were killed in a leopard attack in Boniyar, while dozens more died after a thunderstorm struck the Karaknaar area of Gulmarg in separate incidents in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
According to details obtained by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the leopard attack took place during the night at Barnate in Boniyar, where the animal entered a livestock enclosure and killed six sheep.
Following the incident, officials from the Wildlife Department reached the spot and assessed the situation.
Meanwhile, residents expressed concern over the presence of the leopard, saying a school with more than 300 students and a residential area are located just metres from the site.
“We are worried about the safety of our children and families,” residents said, urging the Wildlife Department to take immediate measures to capture and cage the leopard to prevent any further untoward incident.
In a separate incident, dozens of sheep were killed at Karaknaar in Gulmarg during the afternoon after a thunderstorm hit the area.
The sheep were reportedly grazing in the Gulmarg hills when the thunderstorm occurred, killing them on the spot.
The incidents have raised concern among livestock owners, with further details about the exact number of sheep killed in the Gulmarg incident were immediately not known—(KNO)
