Srinagar, Feb 18 (KNO): The roar of engines filled Bakshi Stadium on Wednesday as the Joint Director Tourism, Kashmir, Waseem Raja, flagged off the Khelo India Bike and Motorcycle Rally, a high-profile initiative aimed at promoting adventure sports and winter tourism in Jammu & Kashmir. “This rally is not just a sports event, but a platform to showcase the beauty of our valley and the spirit of our youth,” Raja Waseem told reporters on the sidelines. As reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), he said participants from across India become our brand ambassadors, spreading positivity and the warmth of J&K hospitality. Bikers were also smiling as they revved up for the ride. “Riding through Kashmir is an experience like no other, and every turn has a view that takes your breath away,” said one participant. Another participant said, “We are thrilled to be part of an event that blends adventure, sports, and tourism. It is unforgettable.” Raja Waseem added that the rally complements the upcoming Khelo India Winter Games, which are set to take place in premier destinations such as Gulmarg. “All departments are working together to ensure the smooth conduct of these events, which not only promote sports but also boost local tourism and the economy,” he said, adding that the successful organising of such events sends a strong message of normalcy and vibrancy to the world, further reinforcing J&K as a hub for winter tourism. “Through initiatives like this, we aim to ensure a healthy footfall of tourists in spring and summer, highlighting the diverse experiences our region offers,” he added. Importantly, the Khelo India Bike and Motorcycle Rally is part of the national Khelo India initiative, aimed at promoting youth participation in sports and adventure activities. By combining competitive riding with tourism, the event highlights Jammu & Kashmir’s scenic landscapes and reinforces the region’s potential as a hub for adventure tourism—(KNO)
