Srinagar, Feb 18 (KNO): Jammu & Kashmir cricket team etched its name in the record books by qualifying for the final of the prestigious Ranji Trophy for the first time in 66 years. The historic achievement came after a spirited and hard-fought semi-final victory, powered by outstanding performances from pace sensation Auqib Nabi and dynamic all-rounder Abdul Samad, who rose to the occasion when it mattered most. As reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in the first innings, Sudip Kumar Gharami's 146 helped Bengal post a total of 328 on the board, and in reply, J&K were bowled out for 302, giving Bengal a lead of 26 runs. From J&K, Samad scored 82 off 85 balls in the first innings, and in the second innings, Bengal was bowled out for just 99 due to superb seam bowling by Auqib Nabi and Sunil Kumar, who took four wickets each, while Auqib took five wickets in the first innings as well, earning him the man of the match award. Jammu and Kashmir reached the milestone for the loss of four wickets in the second innings, with Vanshaj Sharma scoring 43 and Samad 27 runs, both remaining unbeaten. Notably, the road to the final has been nothing short of inspirational for Jammu and Kashmir. Over the years, the team has transformed from underdogs into serious contenders, defeating established domestic giants with disciplined bowling, fearless batting, and exceptional teamwork. Cricket experts have praised the squad’s fitness levels, young talent pool, and improved infrastructure, all contributing to this breakthrough season. As news of the historic qualification spread, celebrations erupted across Jammu and Kashmir. Cricket fans, former players, and sports lovers flooded social media with congratulatory messages, calling the achievement a turning point for sports in the region. “This is more than just a cricket win,” said a local sports enthusiast in Srinagar. “It’s a symbol of hope, hard work, and what our youth can achieve when given opportunities.” With the final now within reach, Jammu and Kashmir will look to carry forward the same momentum and belief. The team management has emphasised staying focused and treating the final as another challenge rather than a pressure-filled occasion. “We’ve come this far through discipline and unity,” said the coach. “Now we aim to finish what we started.” Many Indian cricketers, including former fast bowler Mohit Sharma, said that Auqib Nabi is set to get his maiden India Test call-up for his spectacular bowling performance in the tournament, particularly in the quarter and semi-finals—(KNO)
