‘Maternity leave governed by central guidelines’

Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government has shared that a number of women contractual employees are working in various departments across the Union Territory. In a written reply to a starred question, tabled by BJP MLA Shagun Parihar in the Legislative Assembly, the Finance Department, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), stated that women engaged on contractual basis under different Centrally Sponsored Schemes in J&K are governed by the respective scheme guidelines and the terms and conditions issued by the Government of India. “The entitlement to maternity leave with or without salary is regulated as per these guidelines, and the Government cannot alter these terms and conditions,” the reply reads. However, the department added that contractual employees engaged under SRO-255 of 2003 in various government departments, against vacant posts are being granted ‘180 days of maternity leave without honorarium’—(KNO)
