Srinagar, Sep 23 (KNO): The historic Dastgeer Sahib shrine in Khanyar was illuminated on Wednesday evening as devotees began arriving for night-long Shab Khani, on the eve of the annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA), popularly known as Ghaus-ul-Azam.
The shrine, as per the details obtained by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), witnessed a steady flow of devotees, with the faithful visiting the revered shrine to offer prayers and participate in religious observances ahead of the Urs Mubarak tomorrow.
Speaking about the occasion, devotee Numan Ahmed from Soura, Srinagar, said the night holds special spiritual significance for people across Kashmir and brings families together at the shrine.
He said devotees have been visiting Dastgeer Sahib for generations and the Shab Khani atmosphere remains deeply connected with faith and prayer.
Another devotee, Zubair Firdous from Nishat, Srinagar, said the gathering reflects Kashmir’s long-standing spiritual tradition, with people arriving from different areas to participate in the religious observances. He said the illuminated shrine and gathering of devotees create a special atmosphere on the eve of the Urs.
The Shab-e-Urs is being observed with prayers, recitation of the Holy Qur’an, Zikr and other religious activities as devotees spend the night in remembrance and devotion.
Preparations continued at the shrine and adjoining areas for Thursday’s main Urs Mubarak, which is expected to draw a large gathering of devotees. The annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA) remains an important religious observance in Kashmir, drawing devotees from across the Valley to Dastgeer Sahib every year—(KNO)
