Srinagar, Oct 24 (KNO): Urging youth to channel their energy towards positive activities, SSP Srinagar Dr G. V. Sundeep Chakravarthy on Saturday said the aim of organising sports events under the Civic Action Programme is to engage young people constructively and keep them away from drugs and other social evils. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the concluding ceremony of a T20 cricket tournament in downtown Srinagar, the SSP Srinagar, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the tournament was organised by Srinagar Police as part of its Civic Action Programme. “Keep books, bats and balls in your hands and stay away from drugs. The purpose of organising such tournaments is to channelise the energy of youth in a positive direction,” he said. Congratulating all participating teams, Chakravarthy said, “Whoever has participated in this tournament, whether winners or runners-up, I congratulate everyone from the bottom of my heart.” The tournament, which began on October 17 at MPML Higher Secondary School Playground, Shamswari, witnessed participation from eight teams representing different areas of Srinagar district. In the final, Gojwari Cricket Club defeated Krashbal Cricket Club to clinch the title. The SSP also distributed trophies, medals, mementoes and cash prizes among the winners, runners-up and outstanding performers. He also appreciated the players and local community for their support, saying such initiatives help promote sports and strengthen police-public relations—(KNO)
