All non-municipal villages in Budgam under RDD jurisdiction: Govt | KNO

Jammu, Feb 18 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday said that all villages in Budgam district, except those notified as municipal towns, fall under the jurisdiction of the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department. Replying to a question in the Legislative Assembly tabled by MLA Chadoora Ali Mohammad Dar regarding the administrative control of rural areas, the government, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that sanitation and other rural development activities are being carried out in all villages through concerned Block Development Officers (BDOs). It further stated that no formal complaint has been received regarding interference by the Urban Development Department through its local body units in rural areas. Any complaint received in the future shall be dealt with strictly, it said. On the rationalisation of jurisdictional boundaries, the government said that, via S.O. 53 dated February 27, 2025, boundaries of districts, tehsils, municipalities, towns, and revenue villages across the UT have been frozen with effect from July 1, 2025, till the completion of Census 2021. It added that rationalisation may be initiated only after the de-freezing of boundaries and upon receipt of formal requests, in accordance with governing rules—(KNO)
