Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNO): England umpire Mellissa Juniper, who officiates in the Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL), on Wednesday praised the growing passion of Kashmiri girls for cricket, calling it “refreshing and inspiring". Juniper, who officiated the Kashmir Women’s Premier League (KWPL) match in Baramulla, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), encouraged the girls to stay committed to both sports and academics, stressing the importance of balance and discipline. “Keep going, keep trying hard, and if there’s something you don’t know, ask your coaches for guidance. Make sure you keep up with your studies. But most of all, enjoy it," Juniper told players. She said their energy reminded her of her own early days in the sport. “It’s really nice to watch girls coming out and playing cricket with such passion. I can see real talent coming up, so watch out," the umpire said. Mellissa said the increasing participation of women in cricket is a positive sign for the future of the sport. “If what’s happening here is anything to go by, the women’s IPL is going to be absolutely amazing," she added. Highlighting the importance of learning from top performers, the England umpire said, “If you’re playing with the best, then you’re going to be the best"—(KNO)
