Anantnag, Nov 10 (KNO): The residents of Achoo Gadool in Kokernag hamlet of South Kashmir's Anantnag district are up in arms against the government for failing to provide basic facilities in the area.
Locals said that due to unavailability of proper road connectivity people of the area are facing many difficulties during emergencies.
They said that there are around 400 households in the area but concerned officials have never taken the construction and repair work of a dilapidated link road in their area seriously.
“We have visited various departments several times regarding road construction and repair, but no department has paid attention to alleviate the problems of the people,” said Ghulam Rasool an elderly person of the area.
He said that all parties visit the area during elections only and once they get elected, “nobody bothers to visit the area again.”
Locals said that due to the hilly terrain, people face many difficulties in reaching the link road during snowy and rainy days.
“Many patients from the area have died on the way to the hospital because it takes time to reach a road from where they can board a vehicle,” they said. “In the absence of proper road connectivity, we have to walk for kilometres to get ration.”
Moreover, the locals said that the area has no water facility in the area, “due to which locals are forced to drink contaminated water.”
“Several times we were assured that we will be connected with the nearby water supply scheme but such assurances proved a hoax on ground,” they said.
“Our women folk on a daily basis walk for kilometers to bring water from a spring which is far away from the locality,” they said, adding that their problems are increasing in winters as power supply is also pesky in the area.
“We request higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that we can have a sigh of relief,” locals said—(KNO)
