Srinagar, Mar 11 (KNO): In order to prevent the losses due to snowfall, the government has decided to enhance the number of towers at a number of places across Kashmir.
Sources privy to the development told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that after the damage caused due to the recent snowfall on February 23-24, the Jammu Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL) has decided to enhance the number of electricity towers at vulnerable places.
“It has been observed that the existing towers are far from each other and thus the snowfall increases the weight burden on the transmission lines due to which the towers get damaged,” an official said.
He added that in the recent snowfall, the towers got damaged as the lines couldn’t bear the weight of the snow, thus the JKPTCL after consulting the Engineers have come up with an option to enhance the number of towers that will reduce the weight and ensure the safety in the future.
Pertinently, nine towers across Kashmir got damaged in the recent snowfall, triggering power paucity in Kashmir parts especially in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district where electricity remained affected for four consecutive days.
Earlier, the news agency—KNO has reported that JKPTCL is mulling to come up with snow zone towers to prevent the damage to the power infrastructure during the inclement weather conditions.
The snow zone towers is in addition to the enhancement of the already existing towers at vulnerable places across Kashmir, aimed at preventing losses in the future, a top official said, adding that the JKPTCL has taken a series of steps in this regard and will ensure that there is no massive damage to the power infrastructure in the future—(KNO)
