Ganderbal, (Cherwan) Aug 21 (KNO)*: The only play ground for sports activities in Cherwan area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district remains in shambles creating disappointment among the sports lovers, with the administration hardly bothered to maintain its look to attract sports lovers of the area. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), locals of the area said that Last year a mudslide occurred at the nearby village which blocked the road and during the clearing process the debris was dumped in the play ground with the assurance that it will be cleared soon and the ground will be developed much better than before. “Since then the position of the play ground remained the same and no official of the concerned department reached out despite repeated requests,” locals said. Showkat Ahmad, a local told KNO that, “I have several times posted it on my Twitter handle and tagged higher-ups to get attention towards this grave issue in the area, but all the attempts have felt to deaf ears,” “Government wants to stop youth from evil activities like drugs and gambling but on the other hand don’t provide us a sports field to keep us engaged with the sports activities,” he said. Another local Mohammad Saleem said that many boys are turning to drugs because of the lack of sports fields in the area. “We raised this issue with the village heads like panch and sarpanch many times , but nothing has happened ever,” said Hilal Ahmad, who often organises the village cricket tournaments. Although several boys of the village have played at the state level in different sports activities, the condition of the lone playground is discouraging youth towards the sports. A parent of a sports player, Mukhtar Ahmad said that sports play an excellent role in preventing young children from harmful activities but due to lack of maintained sports play field most of the boys fall prey to many
