Leh, Feb 06 (KNO): The 4th edition of the annual Khelo India Winter Games concluded in Ladakh on Tuesday. Maharashtra emerged as the leader in the medal tally with 20 medals in the event that kicked off on February 02.
This year, Ladakh Union Territory played host to the Khelo India Games for the first time, organizing events across three different venues in the region. The hosts won a combined total of 13 medals and landed in the top three in the overall tally.
According to an official statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Maharashtra clinched 20 medals, including 6 golds, leading the medal count. Karnataka followed closely with a total of 8 medals and 6 golds, while the hosts secured 13 medals, including 2 golds, securing the third position.
The winter games in Ladakh featured two sports: ice hockey and speed skating. The finals of the ice hockey tournament took place on Tuesday afternoon, with the Army emerging victorious in the men's category and ITBP claiming victory in the women's category.
Speaking on the successful conclusion of the event, Deputy Director, Youth Services and Sports, Moses Kunzang, appreciated all those involved in organizing the Khelo India Winter Games for the first time in the region.
“It has given us confidence and would further boost us to do much better in the future,” he said.
“Local participants have also performed well and it is very encouraging. All the participating states have praised the arrangements and facilities put in place. Their feedback has been very positive. No complaints were received throughout the event,” Moses added—(KNO)
