R-Day: Security put on maximum alert across LoC, north Kashmir districts | KNO

Baramulla, Jan 25 (KNO): Ahead of the Republic Day, the security has been beefed up and put on a maximum alert across north Kashmir districts, even as the grid has been tightened along the Line of Control (LoC) to avert any potential threat. Eye witnesses told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that forces have been deployed in a massive numbers across the police districts, including Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Sopore and Handwara even as security agencies including Police, CRPF and Army could be seen carrying out surprise check of the vehicles on the entry and exit points. The cops were also seen frisking motorcyclists and passengers of vehicles besides, bunkers were set up along Srinagar-Baramulla national highway, they said. Officials informed KNO that the security has been intensified for smooth conduct of January 26 functions across the districts. “Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed for surveillance and vehicles are being checked at several places across districts, to thwart any attempts by anti-national elements to disrupt the proceedings,” they said. Additional personnel have been deployed on the ground, while drones are being utilized for aerial surveillance. Sniffer dogs are also being employed to assist security forces in inspecting vehicles at various checkpoints, officials added. They further added the security grid is also relying on modern gadgetry like CCTV cameras and human intelligence to ensure peaceful celebrations. Similarly, the security grid has been tightened along the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla, with intensified night patrols and multi-layered security measures in place, the armed forces are keeping a vigilant eye on the borders to prevent any potential threats—(KNO)
