Kupwara (Lolab), Jan 11 (KNO): The much-anticipated Lolab Winter Carnival lived up to its expectations as an overwhelming crowd from across north Kashmir thronged the picturesque valley to witness the vibrant festival, which marked a significant milestone in the region’s tourism development. The carnival, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), offered a set of activities, including musical performances, cultural programs, games, and stalls showcasing local crafts and cuisines. Ice skating, zip lines and other adventure activities kept the attendees entertained throughout the day. The event also proved to be an economic boon, with several locals setting up stalls and small businesses, creating job opportunities for youth. “This event has given us hope,” Adil Hussain, a young entrepreneur from Kupwara said. “It’s not just about tourism, but it’s about providing avenues for the unemployed youth,” he said. Another attendee, Nighat Rasool from Kupwara added that, “It’s heart-warming to see Lolab buzzing with life. This is the first time I have seen such a grand event here. The administration’s efforts are commendable, and I hope they explore other destinations like Nagmarg and Lashkoot in future festivals.” “The way locals welcomed visitors and participated in the festival is a reflection of the valley’s warmth,” said one of the visitors from Baramulla. “Kupwara has so much to offer and such events will bring it the recognition it deserves.” Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan, expressed her satisfaction with the unexpected turnout. “The participation speaks volumes about the success of this carnival. People enjoyed a wide range of activities and it is a testament to Lolab’s potential as a prime tourist destination,” she said. She, however, emphasized the need for further development in the region. “To sustain and expand tourism, we require better infrastructure, young entrepreneurs and more homestays. We are committed to working on these areas to ensure Lolab becomes a hub for tourism in North Kashmir,” she added. Meanwhile, the event concluded on a high note, with participants lauding the tourism department and administration’s efforts—(KNO)
