Facilitate diversification of Kashmir’s horticulture sector: Fruit growers urge CM Omar Abdullah | KNO

Srinagar, Feb 14 (KNO): The ‘Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union’ has urged the government to facilitate the development of kiwi, grape, and pomegranate orchards to diversify the region’s horticulture sector. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a delegation of fruit growers union led by its chairman Bashir Ahmad Basheer, met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Jammu and apprised him about the infrastructural support to introduce new fruit varieties suited to Kashmir’s climate. The delegation also sought railway connectivity from Jammu and Amritsar for the transportation of cherry to Mumbai, aiming to streamline supply chains and reduce post-harvest losses. “The fruit growers also highlighted improved transportation links would enhance market access and profitability for horticulturists in the Valley.” The Chief Minister assured the delegation that their demands would be considered, acknowledging the significance of horticulture in the region’s economy—(KNO)
