Srinagar, Dec 09 (KNO): Jammu & Kashmir had sought Rs 2,827.54 crore from the Union Government under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for floods and landslides during 2014–15, but received only Rs 43.53 crore as actual release, reveals the date presented in Lok Sabha. The Ministry of Home Affairs as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that a High-Level Committee (HLC) had approved Rs 1,602.56 crore for the UT that was significantly lower than the amount demanded. “However, the Centre released only Rs 43.53 crore from NDRF.” The reply also reiterates that disaster management and immediate relief are primarily the responsibility of State governments. “The centre supplements efforts through SDRF and NDRF based on the severity of events and assessments conducted by Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs).” The ministry further informed that since August-2019, IMCTs are deputed immediately after a disaster of severe nature without waiting for State memoranda, in order to expedite assessments and fund release procedures—(KNO)
