Srinagar Police on Friday arrested Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq as he came out of his Nigeen residence to march towards Jamia Masjid to offer prayers. The joint resistance leadership had called for “Jamia Masjid Challo” to break siege of the historic mosque. “Mirwaiz saheb was arrested as he came out of his residence and started marching,” Hurriyat spokesperson, advocate Shahid ul Islam told Rising Kashmir over phone. Authorities have not allowed weekly congregational Friday prayers in the mosque since July 9, day after militant commander Burhan Wani was killed. Pertinently, Mirwaiz has been placed under house detention after he was shifted from sub-jail Chasma Shahi on October 24.
