NIT Sgr committed to promoting linguistic unity: Director | KNO

Srinagar, Sep 19 (KNO): Director National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia on Friday said the institute is honoured to host a seminar of national relevance at a time when preserving linguistic heritage is critical. He was speaking at the inaugural session of the national seminar on “Bhartiya Bhashaon Mein Ekaatmata”, organised by the Rajbhasha Cell of NIT Srinagar with academic support from Shiksha Sanskriti Utthaan Nyas, Bhartiya Bhasha Manch Nyas and the Department of Hindi, University of Kashmir. “Indian languages are not just a means of communication but also a reflection of our collective history, culture and identity. This seminar will serve as a platform to deepen our understanding of linguistic unity and strengthen the values of national integration,” Prof. Kanaujia said, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). He stressed the seminar provides an opportunity for scholars and students to engage in meaningful dialogue on how language diversity can be harmonised to reinforce national solidarity. Prof. Kanaujia also highlighted that NIT Srinagar has made significant progress in promoting Hindi and other Indian languages on campus. “We have enhanced the use of bilingual documentation under Section 3(3) of the Official Languages Act, 1963, rising from 0.05 percent to 75 percent,” he said. He further noted that the institute has been advancing digital initiatives such as e-office systems and the establishment of an innovation hub, reflecting its commitment to modernisation, inclusivity, and cultural integration. Prof. Kanaujia lauded the Rajbhasha Cell for organising various events during Hindi Pakhwada (September 14–28) including essay writing, poetry recitation, debates, workshops and quizzes aimed at promoting the use of Hindi in official work and everyday communication. He also shared the NIT Srinagar’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that respects India’s linguistic diversity and contributes to building a culturally vibrant and united nation—(KNO)
