Srinagar fire department issues safety advisory amid heatwave conditions | KNO

Srinagar, May 19 (KNO): The Deputy Director Fire & Emergency Services, Srinagar, Monday issued an advisory in view of the rising temperatures and prevailing heat wave conditions in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the advisory, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), all fire service incharges have been instructed to spread awareness about fire safety and preventive measures to minimise fire related losses during the summer season. The advisory mentions some tip for the public such as removing flammable materials like dust, leaves, and sticks from their surroundings, avoiding overloading electric sockets, and switching off electricity when not at home. “People are also urged to keep electric cables away from furniture and flammable objects, store matches and lighters safely away from children, and avoid cooking during peak heat hours while ensuring proper ventilation,” it reads. Additional precautions, per the advisory? include safely extinguishing cigarette butts, fire pits, and campfires, adhering to local rules on trash burning, while farmers have been advised against burning stubble unless done carefully under supervision. The department has stressed that following these measures can help prevent accidental fires and ensure safety of residents during hot and dry weather. “For any fire emergencies, residents can contact the Fire & Emergency Services office at 01942455050”—(KNO)
