Inhabitants of Nalthi , Basti , Sartingal , and adjoining areas of Bhaderwah along with students of local institutions today held strong protest demonstration against the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and local administration demanding macadamisation of Bhaderwah—Bani-Basohli road in the area.A large number of vehicles were stranded for hours following the protest. The protesting people and students gathered on Bhaderwah - Basohli National Highway near Nalthi village and expressed anger against the 144 RCC of Border Road organisation and said there is not a single day when we do not come to know about tragic accidents on our road . While raising slogans against the BRO, they blocked highway by erecting obstacles and laying barbed wires across the road. The protestors alleged that due to the callous and inhuman attitude of the BRO/GREF authorities, villagers have been exposed to several hardships and since last many years, the residents living along Bhaderwah-Basohli road are literally living under thick blanket of dust as despite several representations, 114 RCC instead of blacktoping residential areas have been laying bitumen in the forest and far off areas for unknown reasons.Locals allege that BRO has been acting as a quiet spectator of the horrible condition of the road. They said though the officials are being apprised about the woeful condition of the road on daily basis, they don’t seem to bothered about it .They stated that the condition of link road is pathetic and it makes traveling difficult and even leads to accidents various times. The bad condition of road had become a nuisance, especially during the rains, they added..They also alleged that due to deteriorating co“we have been deliberately forced to live under inhuman condition as there are not only accidents but our agricultural and horticulture produce is also getting affected badly due to the thick layer of dust," said villagers .The shabby road poses accident risk. Vehicles get damaged due to deep potholes and wrecked road and said yesterday one girl died due to dusty road . Villagers while seeking immediate attention and intervention of Civil administration and elected representatives to save them from the mess created by BRO, alleged that beside incurring huge losses in agriculture and Horticulture due thick layer of dust on their produce, dozens of Villagers, especially children have fallen sick and have been diagnosed with dust Pneumonia and other eye and lung diseases and many accidents also happened .Meanwhile, Station House Officer,Bhaderwah Muneer Khan along other officials of BRO / GREF 114 RCC reached the spot and pacified the protesters. They assured that they would try to resolve the issue with the help of the officials concerned. Following this the protesters lifted the blockade ,but warned of an intense protest if the roads are not repaired soon. . It is pertinent to mention that Bhaderwah - Basholi Road, which is under construction since last more than four decades and has been declared as National Highway, is considered the life line of Chinab Valley in general and Bhaderwah in particular and people are waiting for its completion since ages.
