Budgam, Dec 30 (KNO): Doodhpathri, a picturesque meadow nestled in central Kashmir's Budgam district, has emerged as one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the valley. In 2024, the serene spot attracted an impressive 1.86 million visitors, including international, domestic, and local tourists. Riyaz Ahmad Beigh, Chief Executive Officer of the Doodhpathri Development Authority (DDA), attributed this remarkable growth to years of sustained development and promotion efforts. Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), he said, “The influx of visitors is a testament to our dedication to making Doodhpathri a prime attraction for tourists from across the globe. This year, we welcomed 1,482 international tourists, 1,182,843 domestic travelers, and 681,255 local visitors.” Beigh also highlighted how the steady rise in tourism has positively impacted the local economy, providing livelihoods for many. “Visitors not only admire the natural beauty of Doodhpathri but also spend quality time here, benefiting the local community,” he said. Known for its pristine landscapes and breathtaking views, Doodhpathri has also caught the attention of filmmakers. In 2024 alone, the DDA granted 29 shooting permissions for film, television, and music video shoots. “This is a significant boost for both the local tourism industry and global cinema, showcasing the beauty of Doodhpathri to a wider audience,” Beigh remarked. With its unparalleled charm and increasing popularity, Doodhpathri is rapidly solidifying its position as a must-visit destination in Kashmir. He stated that Doodhpathri is set to be transformed into a premier winter destination. “Following the recent snowfall, we restricted vehicle entry to Doodhpathri, allowing only those equipped with anti-skid chains or 4x4 capabilities to access the area up to the TRC,” he said. He added that “due to frost on the roads caused by subzero temperatures, there is a risk of vehicles skidding, which could pose a danger to visitors. To address this, we have deployed manpower to manually clear the roads. Within a day, the route will be opened for vehicles equipped with anti-skid chains and 4x4 systems, allowing access up to Parihas Maidan and ensuring the safety of visitors.” He further revealed that for adventure enthusiasts, skiing and ATV rides would be available, offering an exhilarating winter experience. Additionally, subject to favorable weather conditions, a ski course is planned to be inaugurated on New Year's Day, providing young skiers with an opportunity to learn and enjoy skiing at Doodhpathri. To attract more tourists, a New Year program will also be organized in the first week of January—(KNO)
