Srinagar, Aug 19 (KNO): The indefinite peaceful protest by non-gazetted employees of the five newly established Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in Jammu and Kashmir entered its third consecutive day on Wednesday, with the employees maintaining their agitation over the prolonged delay in finalisation and notification of their Recruitment/Service Rules.
Employees of GMCs Anantnag, Baramulla, Doda, Kathua and Rajouri began the indefinite protest on Monday seeking a clear and legally notified service framework governing their posts, service conditions, promotions and career progression.
According to the protesting employees, no concrete response, official communication or meaningful intervention has been received from the concerned Jammu & Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department despite the protest continuing for three days.
The employees, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the absence of finalised Recruitment/Service Rules has created considerable uncertainty among staff members who have been discharging their duties in the newly established medical colleges for several years.
They said the issue is not related to any immediate financial demand but concerns the basic service structure under which they are expected to serve, particularly matters related to promotional avenues, seniority, career progression, recruitment procedures and other service-related conditions.
“Our demand is simple and legitimate. We have served these institutions with dedication for years, and we only want the Recruitment/Service Rules to be finalised and notified so that there is clarity regarding our service conditions, promotions and career progression,” the employees said.
They said the prolonged delay has left them with no option but to continue their collective protest to draw the attention of the authorities towards what they described as a long-pending issue concerning their professional future.
The employees have appealed to the government to initiate dialogue with their representatives. They have urged the authorities to expedite the process of finalising the Recruitment/Service Rules and provide a clear timeline for their notification.
A concrete assurance from the competent authorities could help address the uncertainty and pave the way for an early resolution of the issue, they said.
The protesting employees have announced that their indefinite peaceful protest will continue until they receive a concrete and satisfactory response from the competent authorities.
Their core demand remains finalising and notifying the Recruitment/Service Rules for the non-gazetted employees of the five new Government Medical Colleges — Anantnag, Baramulla, Doda, Kathua and Rajouri—(KNO)
