Jammu sizzles above 39°C as Kashmir records intermittent rainfall | KNO

Srinagar, Apr 25 (KNO): The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Saturday said Jammu and Kashmir recorded uncertain weather conditions on Saturday with light rain at scattered places and a rising temperature trend in Jammu division. A MeT official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) predicted generally cloudy conditions with intermittent light rain and thunderstorms over the coming days. According to the daily weather parameters, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 21.2°C, which was 0.8°C below normal, and a minimum of 13.5°C, above normal by 4.8°C. The city received 1.4 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours ending 0830 hrs. Relative humidity stood at 92 percent in the morning and 71 percent in the evening. In South Kashmir, Qazigund recorded a maximum of 20.0°C and a minimum of 10.0°C, while Pahalgam registered 16.4°C and 10.0°C respectively with 5.8 mm rainfall. Gulmarg recorded a maximum of 11.8°C and a minimum of 6.2°C with 0.2 mm rainfall. Kupwara reported a maximum of 21.8°C, while Kokernag recorded 19.8°C with 3.4 mm rainfall. Banihal recorded a maximum of 22.0°C and a minimum of 13.4°C with 3.0 mm rainfall. In Jammu division, temperatures remained significantly higher. Jammu recorded a maximum of 39.5°C, which was 5.1°C above normal, and a minimum of 22.8°C. Katra recorded 36.0°C, Batote 27.1°C, and Bhadarwah 26.5°C. Trace rainfall was reported at a few stations including Katra and Bhadarwah. The weather forecast issued by the MET Centre said that on April 25, parts of Jammu and Kashmir are likely to witness partly to generally cloudy conditions with one or two spells of light rain or thundershowers at scattered to many places, accompanied by gusty winds in the afternoon or evening hours. For April 26, generally dry weather has been predicted, while from April 27–28, light rain and thundershower activity is expected at scattered to many places, mainly during afternoon and evening hours. Between April 29 and May 2, partly cloudy to generally dry conditions are likely, with brief spells of light rain or thunder at isolated places. The advisory warned that hot and dry weather is likely to persist over Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Reasi, and Udhampur districts for the next three days, with heat wave conditions at isolated locations on April 25 and 26. It advised the public to avoid heat exposure during peak afternoon hours and maintain hydration by consuming sufficient fluids, ORS, and traditional drinks—(KNO)
