Srinagar, Aug 07 (KNO): Twelve Day Care Cancer Centres (DCCCs) are currently functional in Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed the Lok Sabha on Friday. The details were provided in response to Starred Question No. 294, raised by Shri Kesineni Sivanath, regarding the number of Day Care Cancer Centres set up or proposed to be set up across the country, the number operational State/UT-wise and district-wise, funds allocated and utilised, and proposals for setting up additional centres. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, in his reply, said a total of 524 Day Care Cancer Centres are functional across the country, as reported by States and Union Territories. As per the State/UT-wise details annexed with the reply, Jammu and Kashmir has 12 functional DCCCs. The Ministry, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that DCCCs were envisaged to be established in District Hospitals across the country over a three-year period, as announced in the Union Budget 2025-26. The government further stated that the requirement for DCCCs is assessed by States and UTs through gap analysis, with requirements reflected in proposals submitted under the Programme Implementation Plan (PIP) of the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD). It said that where States and UTs propose additional DCCCs, such proposals are examined in accordance with prescribed norms, adding that 313 DCCCs have been sanctioned accordingly. The annexure shows that Jammu and Kashmir has 12 functional DCCCs, while Ladakh has two functional centres. The national total stands at 524. The reply, however, does not provide district-wise details of the 12 functional DCCCs in Jammu and Kashmir, nor does it specify district-wise funds allocated, released or utilised for DCCCs in the UT. The funds-related part of the question specifically sought district-wise details for Andhra Pradesh. The government said the DCCCs initiative is being implemented to establish day-care cancer treatment facilities at district hospitals as part of efforts to strengthen cancer care under the national programme—(KNO)
