‘J&K, Ladakh record negative power variation’ | KNO

Srinagar, Aug 17 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have witnessed a negative variation of over 11 percent in power requirement during the solar hours and minus 7.2 percent during peak hours in the previous month. According to the official documents showing the anticipated power supply position v/s actual power supply position (Provisional) of Northern Region during the month of July-2025 states that in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh it has anticipated power availability of 2520 MU’s and requirement of 1775 MU’s respectively. The official figures accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) further reveal that the actual power availability was 1562 MU’s whereas the requirement was 1570 MU’s. It also states that there was a variation of minus 11 percent in power requirement and during the peak hours the union territories recorded a variation of minus 7.2 percent in power requirement respectively. It also states that during the peak, NRPC has anticipated that there will be a peak power availability of 4130 Megawatts (MW’s) and power requirement of 2964 MWs. The documents said that there was variation of minus 7.2 percent in power requirement during the peak hours as the actual power supply availability and requirement respectively was 2750 MWs. “Negative or significant variation (≥5%) in Actual Power Supply Position (Provisional) vis-à-vis anticipated figures is observed for the month of July-2026 in terms of Energy Requirement for Haryana, HP, UTs of J&K and Ladakh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand and in terms of Peak Demand similar variation is noted for Chandigarh, Haryana, HP, UTs of J&K and Ladakh, Punjab and Rajasthan,” NRPC said. The Committee urged such states and UTs to submit reason for such variations so that the same can be deliberated in the meeting—(KNO)
