Jammu, Apr 11 (KNO): The residents of Jammu city on Friday caught a suspected thief and handed him over to police. As per details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), vigilant local residents of city’s busy Link Road thwarted a theft attempt by red handed catching a suspect, who tried to snatch earrings of a woman. The locals thrashed the suspected individual and took him to a local barber shop where his head and moustaches were partially shaved and paraded in the entire market as ‘a symbol of insult’. Later, the suspect was handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for further investigation. The Jammu and Kashmir Police responded promptly, taking the suspect into custody. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the full extent of the individual’s activities and any potential accomplices. The police have urged the public to refrain from taking matters into their own hands, emphasizing that the legal processes are in place to ensure justice is served. “We commend the alertness of the community in identifying and reporting the suspect,” said a spokesperson for the Jammu and Kashmir Police. “However, we strongly discourage any form of vigilante action, as it can complicate legal proceedings and compromise safety. We are committed to upholding the law and ensuring due process.” The police have assured residents that they are increasing patrols in the city area to prevent such incidents in future and maintain order—(KNO)
