Srinagar, Nov 16 (KNO): In a pioneering achievement, the Department of General and Minimal Access Surgery at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag has successfully performed an advanced liver resection surgery, marking a significant milestone in the hospital's surgical capabilities.
In a first-of-its-kind procedure at GMC Anantnag, a team of highly skilled surgeons performed a left lateral sectionectomy on a patient diagnosed with Oriental Cholangiohepatitis (Hepatolithiasis) with recurrent cholangitis. This patient required thorough evaluation, preoperative optimization and detailed planning before the surgery, a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reads.
The advanced liver resection was carried out under the patronage and leadership of Principal GMC Anantnag Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, who is also leading Anesthesiologist and critical care specialist of J&K.
Under the leadership of HOD Surgery Dr. Nazir Wani, the surgery was performed by Dr. Manmohan Singh and Dr. Mir Mujtaba Ahmad, both accomplished surgical gastroenterologists with due experience and expertise in Hepatobiliary surgeries. They were supported by a dedicated surgical team comprising Dr. Amin Sagroo, Dr. Nadeem, and Dr. Khurshid, ensuring a smooth and successful operation.
The anaesthesia side, working under close supervision of Principal/ Dean Prof. Najeeb, was ably managed by Dr. Anjum Shameem, HOD Anesthesiology and his team, with Aslam and Bilal providing vital support throughout the procedure. The patient experienced an uneventful postoperative course and was discharged on post-operative day 5.
This successful surgery is a testament to the high level of expertise and surgical care available at GMC Anantnag. Under the dynamic leadership of principal GMC Anantnag Prof. Rukhsana Najeeb, the Department of Surgery is continuing to expand its horizons by performing increasingly advanced and high-end procedures, setting new benchmarks in medical care in the region. This achievement highlights the hospital's commitment to providing world-class healthcare and reinforcing its position as a leader in medical innovation and patient care.
It is worth mentioning that after Professor Najeeb has joined GMC Anantnag as Principal and Dean, complex and high end surgeries and procedures are being performed at a greater pace than one would imagine happening in a newly created Medical College—(KNO)
