Srinagar, Nov 30 (KNO): A devastating fire broke out early Saturday morning in Danawari, Chattabal here, damaging three residential houses and leaving at least a dozen families homeless. However, there were no casualties. The fire, which began at around 6:03 am, quickly spread, engulfing the upper floors and attics of the buildings before consuming parts of two adjacent houses. Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that all residents managed to escape unhurt, but the blaze caused extensive property damage. Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing experience, describing how they woke to cries for help and the sight of flames spreading rapidly. “We were all asleep when loud cries woke us. The attic of the first house was already in flames. Within moments, the fire spread to neighbouring homes, creating panic in the area,” said a local. Another resident added, “Three houses have been severely damaged, affecting nearly a dozen families. These families have lost everything and are now homeless.” The affected families are currently seeking refuge with relatives and neighbours as they face the daunting task of rebuilding their lives. Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) officials said they responded promptly to the call at 6:04 AM. Fire tenders, supported by police and local volunteers, worked tirelessly to control the blaze, preventing further damage to nearby structures. “Despite our efforts, the fire caused significant damage to the properties,” an F&ES official said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but preliminary reports suggest it may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit—(KNO)
