Srinagar, Jun 10 (KNO): Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq on Wednesday expressed concern over the reported killings in Rawalakot across the LoC, urging authorities to address public grievances through dialogue and restraint instead of force. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the Mirwaiz expressed deep concern over the reported loss of lives in Rawalakot across the Line of Control (LoC). In a post on X, the Mirwaiz said he was “deeply disturbed by the news coming from across the LoC” and described the killing of more than a dozen protesting civilians and police personnel as “extremely sad.” He said the government there “should know better than to use force to handle public grievances and demands in this manner.” The Mirwaiz further stated that “when people take to the streets to express their concerns, it is a signal that they seek to be heard.” He added that “it is the responsibility of those in authority to listen, engage and peacefully resolve the matter, rather than allow it to escalate into violence, arbitrary arrests and loss of life.” He expressed hope that “better sense prevails and the matter is handled with maturity while addressing the concerns of the people.”—(KNO)
