Tangmarg, Jul 22 (KNO): Authorities on Wednesday closed the Lalpora—Kharkhal—Mamoosa Bailey Bridge in Kunzer for vehicular traffic after the R&B department warned that the structure could be washed away due to severe erosion caused by the overflowing Ferozpora Nallah. According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) a shopping complex near Chanpora Bridge has also been flagged as unsafe, with officials recommending immediate evacuation of shopkeepers. Officials said that inspections found that the bridge's pier and abutments have suffered severe erosion due to the intense flow of the Ferozpora Nallah besides, also found that the columns of a shopping complex near Chanpora Bridge on the nallah side have been exposed and damaged The department warned that any further rise in the water level due to heavy rainfall or cloudbursts in the upper reaches could wash away the bridge and the shopping complex, posing a serious threat to commuters and risking loss of life and property. Tehsildar Kunzer Syed Eyad told KNO that the bridge has been closed for vehicular movement as a precautionary measure following the R&B Department's recommendations. He said necessary steps are being taken to ensure public safety while further assessment is carried out by the concerned authorities—(KNO)
