Udhampur, Aug 07 (KNO): Urging people to conserve water and avoid its wastage, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to provide safe, adequate and quality drinking water to every citizen. Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stones of major water supply and sewerage projects in Udhampur and Reasi, CM Omar, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said sustainable management of water resources requires collective public participation. “Water conservation is a shared responsibility. We must use drinking water judiciously and avoid its wastage. I urge people to adopt the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign and promote rainwater harvesting for gardening, agriculture and other non-potable uses,” he said. CM Omar said preserving water resources and constructing check dams would strengthen water conservation and groundwater recharge. Describing Rs 124.19-crore Udhampur water supply project as a significant step towards strengthening the town's water infrastructure, CM Omar said it would ensure a sustainable supply of safe and quality drinking water while meeting the needs of its growing population. Reiterating his government’s commitment to inclusive development, the Chief Minister said all genuine public demands raised by people and their elected representatives would be examined and addressed on priority—(KNO)
