Srinagar, Jul 28 (KNO): The Central government on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that 12 of the 13 sanctioned public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVPCS) in Ladakh are operational, while no proposal has been received from the Union Territory under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme for setting up additional charging infrastructure. Replying to a question raised by Ladakh MP Mohmad Haneefa, Minister of State for Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the Ministry of Heavy Industries has not carried out any assessment on the requirement for a comprehensive EV charging network in Ladakh, including along the Leh-Manali and Srinagar-Leh highways, as of July 23, 2026. The minister said setting up EV charging stations is an unlicensed activity, allowing manufacturers, private companies and other entities to establish, operate and maintain charging stations across the country. He said ₹912.50 crore was allocated under the FAME-II scheme for public EV charging stations, while ₹2,000 crore has been earmarked under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme for deployment of EV charging infrastructure across India, including Ladakh. However, no state-wise allocation has been made under FAME-II. According to information provided by BPCL, IOCL and HPCL, a total of 13 public EV charging stations have been sanctioned for Ladakh under the FAME-II scheme, of which 12 were operational as on July 1, 2026, the Minister added—(KNO)
