Srinagar, Oct 21 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha advocated comprehensive measures to deal with radicalization of youth and round the clock monitoring of social media content to prevent provocation and its misuse. Addressing policemen on the occasion of the Police Commemoration Day at Zewan on the city outskirts, the LG Sinha showered praises on the J&K Police for dealing effectively with the law and order and militancy. "Indoctrination is not limited to an individual taking up a gun. There is a huge online and offline propaganda. Our neighbour sitting thousands of miles away is trying to provoke a large section of the society (in Kashmir) and lure young minds," the LG said as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). He said that J&Ks’ strategy on counter-radicalisation should involve community elders and influential people to promote the message of peace and harmony. “I would suggest a regular change in the strategy to deal with the militancy funding from our neighbour,” LG Sinha said. He said: "To deal with militancy-funding, there is a need to change our strategy regularly so that we tackle it with a comprehensive response." He suggested round the clock monitoring of malicious content on social monitoring. “I am sure that those involved in dealing with the provocative social media content will devise an effective mechanism to deal with the challenge to prevent provocation and misuse of social media,” the LG said. Hailing the Jammu and Kashmir Police for maintaining law and order and at the same time, dealing with militancy in the Union Territory, the LG said he is sure that the force will continue to safeguard the reputation and pride of the country. He asked the police to go tough against the anti-peace elements. “Police policy must be—begunah ko chedo mat, Gunahgar ko chodo mat (don’t touch innocent and don’t leave culprits),” he said. The LG said that “militancy sponsored by the neighbour” has been effectively dealt by the police force. “Our police force is playing a significant role in tackling militancy. In J&K, every school, institution and office must know the role police is playing. People should know that if they sleep, it is because of the policemen who remain awake throughout the night on streets,” he said as per KNO. The LG hailed police for effectively dealing with the law and order challenges. “I am glad that in the two years, policemen from J&K have been awarded 684 medals. As far the support J&K police needs from the administration, I assure them the full support,” he said—(KNO)
