Srinagar, Dec 08 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir has a total of 11 air quality monitoring stations operational under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has informed the Lok Sabha. As per official data, Jammu has six manual monitoring stations, Srinagar with five stations including Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System (CAAQMS) and four manual stations. These stations are being used by the J&K Pollution Control Committee to track ambient air quality across both cities. The Ministry, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that under NCAP, monitoring infrastructure is installed and operated by State Pollution Control Boards and Pollution Control Committees in accordance with Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) standards. “Jammu and Srinagar districts remain the only two cities from J&K included in the national list of 130 NCAP cities.” Officials noted that the inclusion of cities under NCAP is based on long-term air quality trends, population size and non-attainment status. The Ministry has also emphasized coordinated action between central and state agencies to strengthen monitoring and mitigation efforts—(KNO)
