Srinagar, Nov 22 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Tariq Hameed Karra on Friday demanded a thorough investigation through Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) into the allegations of corruption levelled against industrialist Gautam Adani. Karra while addressing a press conference at party headquarters in Srinagar, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) accused Adani and his associates of orchestrating bribery and corruption, alleging that it has harmed India’s economy and internal security. “The nexus between BJP and Adani has not only affected the country’s financial security but also directly contributed to rising inflation and soaring prices of essential commodities like food, petrol, diesel, and cooking oil,” Karra stated. He highlighted that this alleged misconduct has caused significant economic repercussions for ordinary Indians. Karra referred to a recent report by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which allegedly implicated Adani and seven associates in a Rs 2,000 crore bribery case linked to solar power contracts in India. Karra during the presser pointed to the SEC’s investigation, which accuses Adani and his associates of bribing Indian government officials between 2020 and 2024 to secure overpriced solar power contracts across multiple states, including Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Jammu and Kashmir. The JKPCC Chief criticized Indian regulatory and investigative agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Income Tax Department, for their alleged failure to act against Adani despite mounting evidence. He claimed that instead these agencies have been misused to facilitate Adani’s acquisition of strategic assets such as airports, ports, media houses, and cement plants while targeting opposition leaders. Kara said that the findings vindicate the Congress Party’s ‘Ham Adani Ke Hain Kaun’ campaign, stating that it has been repeatedly questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged close ties with Adani. Demanding an independent investigation into the matter he urged the BJP-led central government to explain its role in the alleged corruption. “This is not just about one industrialist or one political party. It is about the integrity of India’s economy, governance, and global reputation,” Karra said. Notably, billionaire Adani has been charged by US prosecutors over his role in an alleged years-long scheme to pay USD 250 million bribe to Indian officials in exchange for favourable terms for solar power contracts. US prosecutors charged Adani, 62, his nephew Sagar and other defendants for paying over USD 250 million in bribes between 2020 and 2024 to Indian government officials to win solar energy contracts on terms that could potentially bring in more than USD 2 billion in profit—(KNO)
