The festival marking the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Uma is celebrated as Hairath by the Kashmiri Pandits on the 13th day of the dark half of the month Phalguna.

The festivities begin on the first day of Phalguna Krishna Paksha and last till Amavasya. The festival also includes cultural activities. Though it is a Hindu festival, people of different religions celebrate Hairath together in Kashmir. It is an occasion to meet each other as a part of an informal gathering irrespective of caste and creed. The festival acts a bridge between people of different religions to come together,” said a Kashmiri Pandit.

In Jammu different NGO’s including Global Mother Heritage distributed food stuff and other materials among Kashmiri Pandits. Kashmiri Pandit and senior political leader Sanjay Saraf told CNS that they distributed famous vegetables of Kashmir including Nadroo among Pandits.
