Srinagar, Feb 05 (KNO): The Centre on Thursday informed the Parliament that Jammu and Kashmir received around 4.5 lakh metric tonnes of food grains annually under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), while Ladakh received around 0.32–0.35 lakh metric tonnes per year, under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS). In a written reply in Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), stated that Jammu and Kashmir was allocated about 4.50 LMT in 2020–21, 4.49 LMT in 2021–22, 4.51 LMT in 2022–23 and around 4.50 LMT in 2023–24, with similar allocations continuing in 2024–25. For 2025–26 (up to December 2025), the UT has received around 3.75 LMT under NFSA. For Ladakh, the ministry said around 0.32 LMT was allocated in 2020–21, which increased marginally to about 0.33–0.35 LMT between 2021–22 and 2024–25, while around 0.28 LMT has been allocated in 2025–26 (up to December). Earlier, the government had told Parliament that over 910 thousand metric tonnes of food grains were allocated to Jammu and Kashmir and nearly 59 thousand metric tonnes to Ladakh under PMGKAY during the COVID-19 period, in addition to NFSA entitlements. The Ministry said that advance stocking and special transportation arrangements are made for snow-bound areas of Kashmir and high-altitude regions of Ladakh to ensure uninterrupted supply during winter months—(KNO)
