Sopore, Dec 10 (KNO): The administration in Sopore on Wednesday conducted a disaster management mock drill at Government Boys Higher Secondary School to enhance winter fire safety awareness. The exercise, an official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), was aimed at assessing and strengthening the emergency response mechanism in the event of fire incidents, which tend to rise during the winter season. Addressing the participants, Tehsildar Sheikh Tariq highlighted the importance of preparedness and community vigilance. He urged citizens to exercise caution while using heating appliances and other winter gadgets. Negligence in handling such devices often leads to avoidable fire mishaps, causing property loss and endangering lives, Tariq said. The mock drill involved rapid response demonstrations by the local disaster management team and included participation from school staff, students and officials from concerned departments—(KNO)
