Srinagar, Jul 31 (KNO): The Centre on Friday said there is no shortage of fertilisers, including Urea, DAP, MOP and NPKS, in Jammu and Kashmir.
Responding to a starred question raised by Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the Lok Sabha regarding shortage of fertilisers, particularly DAP, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Jagat Prakash Nadda, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said the government assesses state-wise and month-wise requirements before every cropping season and supplies fertilisers through monthly supply plans.
He said that in Jammu and Kashmir during 2025-26, the requirement of Urea was 1.46 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), against availability of 2.24 LMT and DBT sales of 1.60 LMT. The requirement of DAP stood at 0.46 LMT against availability of 0.61 LMT and sales of 0.43 LMT, while MOP availability was 0.35 LMT against a requirement of 0.21 LMT.
In 2024-25, J&K had a Urea requirement of 1.48 LMT against availability of 2.05 LMT and sales of 1.36 LMT. DAP requirement was 0.49 LMT against availability of 0.58 LMT and sales of 0.43 LMT, while MOP availability stood at 0.26 LMT against a requirement of 0.22 LMT.
The Minister said any gap between domestic production and demand is met through imports, while fertiliser movement across the country is monitored through the Integrated Fertilizer Management System. State governments are also advised to coordinate with manufacturers and importers to streamline supplies.
At the national level, during Kharif 2026 up to July 27, availability stood at 174.47 LMT for Urea against a pro-rata requirement of 120.16 LMT, 42.36 LMT for DAP against 34.67 LMT requirement, 14.21 LMT for MOP against 10.97 LMT requirement and 88.01 LMT for NPKS against 52.89 LMT requirement.
The Centre also said it has taken measures to increase domestic production, including establishment of six new Urea units and approval of additional projects, with indigenous Urea production capacity rising to 269.42 LMT per annum—(KNO)
