Srinagar, Jul 29 (KNO): Jailed Baramulla MP Er Rashid raised the issue of pellet gun use in Kashmir during proceedings in Parliament, while also urging the Centre to extend immediate financial assistance to rain affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
On the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, MP Rashid, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) congratulated the youth of the country and said they deserved credit for the legislation. He, however, questioned what the youth of Kashmir had received in return.
The MP alleged that an educational institution in Shopian had been sealed and claimed that students of the University of Kashmir were not being allowed to have a students' union.
Referring to the debate over the use of pellet guns during a recent protest at Jantar Mantar, Rashid said the issue should also be viewed in the context of Kashmir. "They talk about pellet guns being used at the Jantar Mantar protest, but I want to tell the India Alliance that they are the ones who started it in Kashmir in 2010. Who will answer the youth of Kashmir? Hundreds of our people were killed and hundreds lost their eyesight," he told the Parliament.
Er Rashid also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Government to provide immediate financial assistance to the rain affected areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Uri, Bijhama and Beerwah from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.
He said the affected residents had been left distressed by the recent calamities and required urgent support for relief and rehabilitation—(KNO)
