Srinagar, Mar 30 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday said that four school buildings in Budgam constituency have been declared unsafe and steps are underway for their reconstruction under various schemes.
Replying to an unstarred question in the Legislative Assembly tabled by MLA Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, the government, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that the unsafe buildings have been identified by the PW(R&B) Department.
It said that the construction of a new building for Middle School CI Dass Zone Soibugh has already been approved under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme for the current financial year 2025–26.
“Further, construction of new buildings for other schools declared unsafe shall be proposed under Samagra Shiksha Scheme and UT Capex Budget 2026–27, subject to availability of funds,” the government said.
On implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the government said that significant infrastructure development has been undertaken in Budgam constituency.
It said that since 2022–23, a total of 209 kindergartens have been established in Budgam district, out of which 30 are in Budgam constituency.
The government further said that 15 hybrid classrooms have been set up during the current financial year at a cost of Rs 8 lakh, covering all zones of Budgam constituency, with over 2,100 students enrolled.
Under other components of NEP-2020, the government said that three PM SHRI schools have been established, while vocational education has been extended to 17 schools.
It added that 438 teachers have been trained under the Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) programme to strengthen early grade learning.
Besides, five astrophysics labs, 31 ICT/CAL labs and one Atal Tinkering Lab have been established to promote digital and STEM-based learning in schools—(KNO)
