Pulwama, Dec 27 (KNO): The famous water springs of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district are drying up again, leading to a water shortage in several villages. As per the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), several water springs that are sources of different water schemes have dried up due to prolonged dry spell in Kashmir. Officials of PHE Tral informed that the water level of the famous spring Aripal started decreasing before weeks but it dried up almost 95 per cent now. They said that the famous spring that was acting as a drinking water source to several water supply schemes and with its drying up; it has led to water shortage in many areas. Meanwhile, the locals said that they have been facing a water shortage for many days due to the low water level at Aripal spring. They said that this is for the second time in the ongoing year that the level of water at this famous spring has gone down. Earlier in January this year, this spring had completely dried up following which the fishes in the fisheries department were shifted to Dobiwan and other places. Meanwhile, the officials said that they are looking for alternate arrangements in this regard so that people won’t suffer. They said that currently tankers have been pressed into service to ensure water to every village where supply has got affected while further steps in this regard are being taken up. An official of Jal Shakti Department on condition of anonymity told KNO that Aripal spring has dried up almost 95 per cent and people are facing water issues since the last 20 days. He said that all springs in the area have exhausted and currently they are managing just 30 per cent of sources as some have frozen as well. He said that tanker services have been put in service but the situation is very critical as only 10% roughly can be catered through tanker services. He, however, said that if there will be good precipitation in the coming time, all issues will get resolved—(KNO)
