Asks various departments to remain alert for prompt response

Srinagar, Apr 19 (KNO): Amid the bad weather predictions from April 18 to 20, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri Saturday held an ‘emergency meeting’ to assess the preparedness of various departments. Pertinently, the MeT department had predicted heavy rainfall, lightning, hailstorms, strong winds, and possible cloudbursts across Kashmir from April 18 to 20. Sources privy to the meeting told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the meeting took place in the office of Divisional Commissioner at Srinagar that was virtually attended by the Deputy Commissioners and concerned officials across the Kashmir Division. Sources further said that the senior officials from different departments who attended the meeting includes the representatives of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, School Education Department, Health Department, Urban Local Bodies, Rural Development, Tourism, Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, and the Meteorological Department. They said the meeting also saw the participation of the Regional Transport Officer of Kashmir, SSPs of Traffic (City and Rural), Chief Engineers from PWD (R&B), Jal Shakti (PHE and I&FC), KPDCL, and senior representatives from Fire & Emergency Services, SDRF, and NDRF. Sources also informed that the Divisional Commissioner instructed all the concerned departments to remain alert. Bidhuri further directed the concerned to activate all the control rooms, deploy field staff, and keep machinery and response teams on standby to handle any emergency that may arise during the expected weather disturbance. “All departments have been directed to maintain close coordination and ensure public safety, especially in low-lying and vulnerable areas,” sources said. He further said that the meeting concluded with a call for proactive measures and real-time monitoring to prevent disruption and safeguard life and property during the forecasted weather spell—(KNO)
