Bandipora, Sep 16 (KNO): Former district president of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Mohammad Sikander Malik, who is contesting Jammu and Kashmir assembly election for Bandipora Constituency Monday urged people to give him an opportunity to prove his ability to serve them. Addressed a rally in Bandipora’s Gulshan Chowk, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Malik said that JeI never supported violence in J&K, but it has always engaged in religious work. "As circumstances evolved, the organisation and its members were compelled to step forward to serve the people who have been suffering for years," he said. He also denied accusations that JeI candidates are contesting polls to divide votes in J&K. "We will never collaborate with anyone, including the BJP, as our ideals do not align with theirs. We will serve the people in our own way and make no false promises." He said that he will stand with those who will raise the Kashmir issue. “I can say and feel that there is peace in J&K. Only those who have languished in jails for years, like Engineer Rashid, truly understand the wounds," he said Praising Er Rashid, he said people need to understand the difference between honest and dishonest people. Targeting National Conference, he said, the party people previously welcomed them when JeI announced to participate in election. “Now same party is falsely accusing us of being a BJP team. We have a long-standing conflict with the National Conference, and everyone should understand this," he said—(KNO)
